Hi. Yes , you are right… currently work with Amped Studio app do not support device selection in our app (at the moment), it’s using the default system device. However you should be able to use you external audio device as long as you can make it default in system setting of the machine you work on.
For example, on Windows it can be done by opening Control Panel > Sound > Recording (tab), then right-clicking the desired device and selecting “Set as Default Device” in its context menu (see attached screenshot).
